Hatsune Miku shirt arrival!

Well I just went to check my mailbox and found a pleasant surprise! I had ordered a Hatsune Miku t-shirt from J-List about a month ago I’d say, and they told me soon after my order that due to conventions they were all out and the shirt was on backorder. Well it’s here now. My very first “anime” shirt. Previously 90% of my shirt wardrobe was band t-shirts, and I had been looking through my closet in disgust at how boring that really is. Sure I love music, and Miku is technically a music program herself, but when I saw the shirt I had to have it. I think it was $18.95, + around $2-3 shipping and handling, which wasn’t bad at all. I’d spend around the same amount at the mall for a band t-shirt. Anyways here’s a couple shots of the shirt ^^

Yeah in the first picture there’s a complimentary package of tissues that came with the shirt. I guess J-list does that with all the orders. Keep them for cleaning my figma? *shrug*

So what is anime to me? You could say anime is my anti-drug quite literally. A lot of anime actually affects me as a whole, for instance “Welcome To The N.H.K.” snapped me out of my unhealthy obsession with online gaming, just at the time when I was getting bored of it anyways, it also made me realize how much of a shut-in I had become. Sometimes I still play online games but I don’t let them suck me in and tune out the rest of the world. This is only one of many issues addressed in this anime but it’s an example of the impact it had on me.

I’d like to share a quote by Dr. Seuss that I think applies to people quite well, related to the subject of how you are perceived by others – “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” This is especially true about those who criticize others about the things they like. If you don’t like something you don’t need to blatantly bash people about it, negativity only breeds more negativity. And now I’ll finish on a positive note. Here’s a picture that I really like because I’m a husband and a father. Parenthood really changes a person’s perspective.

Dango family from Clannad. My son adores the song and the animation to the ED, so here it is for your viewing pleasure. He even draws dango outside with sidewalk chalk! 🙂

Figures and Wall Scrolls

So I’m still awake at almost 1 AM and I figure I’d just throw some random photos up to get started and link you to my figure collection. I’ve only recently began collecting anime related character figures, mainly because of the discovery of Figma which I will be posting pictures of the two I currently own on here. Of course, I have to give credit to DannyChoo because if I hadn’t found his awesome site while looking for information on Japan I wouldn’t even have become a figure collector. I always admired figures when I saw them but the price and the practicality turned me off, because normal figures aren’t poseable like a figma is, and the prices are so high for something that can only sit on your shelf or desk and look pretty. Of course I will admit there are plenty of figures I’ve got my eyes on that aren’t figmas, but figmas are what I’m the most excited about. So far I have only Yuki Nagato and Haruhi Suzumiya but as you’ll see from my collection I have a few more pre-ordered. I’m really looking forward to the Miku Hatsune figma the most of all I think. Still no word on when it’ll be out though. Alright enough talk, here’s some pictures of my current collection which is just starting out.

Yuki Nagato & Haruhi Suzumiya

Also, a non-figma that you could expect from someone going by Persocom-san if you’ve any idea what a persocom is. Chobits very own Chi. You’ll have to bare with me, I’m not very talented at taking pictures of figures yet, I’m only used to shooting scenery and people, and I’m only using a digital camera. I didn’t bother photoshopping these yet to make them look better so you’re left with the raw photos. Chi on the top, Haruhi and Yuki on the bottom.

I’ll definately work on my figure photography skills more, and keep updating when I do take new pictures. I suppose now I’ll show you my small collection of wall scrolls? Recently I got sick of posters because they end up beat up and torn so easily, especially when moving. Wall scrolls are so much better because they roll up easy, don’t need tape, staples, tacks or nails in them, and the material is thicker and sturdier than plain poster paper. Wall scrolls for the win! I kept the box from one that I ordered online for storage. I only have two so far but one more should be showing up in the mail within the week.

Well then I guess that’s enough for this entry. Goodnight!

My first real blog, oh noes!

Well this will be the start of my first real blog… what to say? I suppose I’ll start out with a little picture of me and a short description of who I am. I’m 25 years old, married, and I have a 4 year old son. I’m pretty obsessed with anime, so I suppose I fall into the otaku category pretty easily, not that I’d be ashamed of it because I’m not the least bit. I’m not so much into many of the never-ending series that are so popular over here in the US. I listen to a wide variety of music, my favorites usually being more upbeat songs that don’t put you to sleep. I especially like electronic music and I do dabble with a few music making programs although I haven’t made anything in about a year, as in the last year since I moved here I have changed my ways almost to the point where I’m a different person altogether. I previously lived in California and I was raised in Wisconsin in a very small town. Oh yeah, I suppose location is important. I live in a trailer park in Colorado, not the best place to be but it’s better then the places I’ve been previously, I guarantee that. So what will I blog about? I really don’t know for sure, perhaps I’ll review anime/figures as I watch/get them, maybe I’ll ramble about my life, maybe both, this is my first blog after all, so I guess I’ll see what happens as it happens. For now I’ll leave you with a picture of me since I got nothing to hide.

Sometimes I spike my hair up, this is a recent change I used to have longer hair and was much more “gothy” looking. Well I guess this is all for this post. I’ll add much more very soon.
